"Tango-no-sekku" is held on May 5th. This day is the beginning of summer in the lunar calendar, So,a one-day festival is held on this day.
After World War II, this day is called "Children's Day", it became a national hoiday.
This day has been a "Children's Day", But it is known as "Boy's Festival".
March 3rd is girl's festival,and May 5th is boy's festival in Japan.
Families with boys celebrate their health and growth. They decorate "Samurai dolls" and " Samurai helmet" in the house, and hoist carp streamers outside of the house.
Carp streamers are cloth with a design of carp on it. They are hoisted to the pole,and they leave a trail in the wind. This scene projected success for boys.
On this day, people eat lucky food - a rice cake wrapped in an oak leaf "Kashiwamochi"and dumpling wrapped in bamboo leaves "Chimaki",and take a bath with leaves of the iris which is good for health.
