Obon Festival
"Obon" is observed from the 13th to the 15th of August. It is a Buddhist memorial service for the ancestors and deceased of the family. This period isn't a national holiday,but many of the company declare at as a holiday. People return home to visit the family grave.
People offer chrysanthemum and lily flowers and food the deceased liked,burn incense sticks,and pray for their souls to rest in peace.
In this period, Spirits of ancestors are belived to come back to the house.
So,people offer cucumber and eggplant that were resembled animals sticked to disposable chopsticks,and offer ground cherry as a light that illuminate the way.
In addition, as events of the region, Bon Odori is performed to comfort the spirits of ancestors at a venue crowded with many people.
On the last evening of "Obon",farewell fires are made to guide the spirits back to their world. In particular, "Okuribi of Gozan in Kyoto" is famous. In some areas, People send the spirits of ancestors to the river.It called "Toronagashi" and "Shoronagashi".
